New Year’s Resolutions and Hearing Loss

Decided on your new year’s resolutions? Is losing weight or quitting smoking on your list again?  Our friends at Healthy Hearing have put together a handy guide if you need some extra motivation. In fact, their guide specifically discusses obesity and smoking, but with a new twist – they both can have a negative impact on your hearing.


“Welcoming in the New Year with bad habits like smoking and overeating may lead to health issues such as Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and hearing loss.”  The guide goes into detail on how both habits impact your hearing health, providing links to the supporting research.  They point out that the key to healthy hearing is blood flow, and both smoking and obesity have been linked to blocking blood flow. Now you have one more reason to take action on these worthwhile resolutions. There is no better time that now to make changes for the better. Taking action in smaller aspects of our lives is the best way to lead to a better tomorrow.


On a side note, the article points out that those who make resolutions are ten times more likely to succeed than those who don’t.  Best wishes for reaching your 2017 resolutions!
