Whether you are going on vacation, are too busy to handle calls, or are using the CaptionCall Mobile app, you may need to forward your calls to a different phone number. Call forwarding is a simple process, but it can seem a bit confusing depending on your wireless service provider. Most cell phone companies require you to enter a dial code to unlock the ability to forward calls. But some providers have this unlocked already.

For those of you who have hearing loss, need captions, and have downloaded the CaptionCall Mobile app, you received a new phone number that allows us to caption calls for you on the go. You can forward calls to this number to use captions on your mobile device without you having to tell everyone that you have a new phone number. Additionally, if a call comes through where captions are not needed, you can simply turn off captions for that call on the mobile app. Call forwarding does not affect your ability to send or receive text messages.

Here is a general breakdown of how to forward calls on your phone.

How to Forward Calls on iPhone and iOS devices:

To activate call forwarding:

  1. Open the device’s settings and select Phone
  2. Select Call Forwarding
  3. Select the toggle button next to Call Forwarding to turn it off
  4. Wait a few seconds and then turn on the toggle button again to enable Call Forwarding

To deactivate call forwarding:

  1. Repeat steps above and turn off the switch to deactivate Call Forwarding

How to Forward Calls on Android devices

Since there are a variety of different Android devices, your options may differ slightly.

To activate call forwarding:

  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Select the Action Overflow icon. On some phones, select the Menu icon instead to see a list of commands (three dots or lines in the right-hand corner)
  3. Select Settings or Call Settings
  4. Select Supplementary Services (some devices may have this option, if yours does not, skip this step)
  5. Select Call Forwarding
  6. Select one of the following options: Always Forward (choose this one for CaptionCall Mobile), Forward When Busy, Forward When Unanswered, or Forward When Unreachable
  7. Set the forwarding number, including area code
  8. Select Enable, OK, or Turn On

To deactivate call forwarding:

  1. Repeat steps above, but select Disable, or Turn Off
