Making 911 Emergency Calls
Calling 911 using a CaptionCall phone is the same as calling 911 on any other landline phone. As long as you have phone service, you can place calls to and receive calls from 911. Simply pick up the handset and use the keypad to dial. 911 calls are prioritized in our queue and answered by the first available communications assistant in order to offer you the best service during a possible emergency.
If your internet connection is down, captions will not be available, but you will still be able to place and receive calls—including 911 calls.
CaptionCall VoIP Phone Service
The CaptionCall VoIP phone service offers a solution for people without traditional landlines to use the CaptionCall phone and captioning service. This phone service requires an internet connection to place calls. You can use the CaptionCall VoIP phone service to dial 911 as long as you have an internet connection.
The CaptionCall VoIP phone service includes E911 capabilities. As part of becoming a CaptionCall VoIP customer, you provided CaptionCall with your Emergency Calling Service address. This address will be transmitted to the E911 center in the event that you call 911. If your actual location is different from the registered Emergency Calling Service address that you gave CaptionCall, you will need to provide your current location to emergency personnel when you call 911 during an emergency. To verify or change your Emergency Calling Service address, please call 1-877-557-2227.
E911 service may be limited or unavailable under certain circumstances, including, but not limited to, during an electrical outage or during an Internet service outage.
