Halloween brings a great time with tricks and treats. However, there are some tricks we can all live without. Phone scams are a real issue this time of year, especially for those that are getting up there in years. And those with hearing loss can be at an even greater risk of falling prey to phone scammers.  So what can you do to protect yourself?

The CaptionCall phone will help you to better hear and understand what your callers say. The powerful amplification combined with captions of what your callers say will make it easier for you to catch any potentially fishy phone calls. The CaptionCall phone also allows you to save the conversation captions on your phone if you suspect the person calling you of being less than reputable.  Even with the CaptionCall phone, never commit to anything over the phone immediately.

Both AARP and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have some great things to look for to stay safe. Here are some tips you can follow:

  • Be wary of uninvited calls: If you were not expecting the call do not give them any information.
  • If you are concerned that the call may be from your bank or some other institution then let them know you will call them back. Hang up and find the phone number yourself. Do not trust a phone number they offered you.
  • Do not make a decision right away – take your time. Don’t allow them to pressure you into giving any credit card information or personal details.
  • Watch for red flag statements like “You’ve won a prize”, “You’ve been specially selected”, or “You’ve earned a free bonus”

  1. I already have a caption call phone, the audio quite often cuts in and out when speaking.
Maybe you can help, probably something simple I’m doing.
I would like to get your monthly news letter.
I don’t know how to put slash through the 44.
