Being aware of what’s around you is vital to keeping yourself and those around you safe while you drive. Unfortunately hearing loss can make it difficult to be 100% aware of what’s going on. Thanks to ‘healthyhearing.org’ though, you don’t have to let hearing loss be a reason to keep you from hitting the road to visit your friends and family. They have put together some great tips to make driving with hearing loss as safe an experience as possible.
The first thing they suggest, is to make sure you seek treatment for your hearing loss. Treatment is the best way to minimize the impact that hearing loss can have on your driving and should be sought first and foremost as soon as you notice hearing loss is an issue.
Secondly, get rid of distractions. Make sure you turn down the radio, maintain your hearing aids and focus absolutely on driving. Don’t let anything get in the way of getting to your destination safely.
Last, make sure you are taking care of your eyesight as well. With hearing loss, you will need to rely more on visual clues to be aware of your surroundings. Do everything you can to make sure you are regularly checking your vision so that you can keep a sharp eye out for road hazards.
Don’t let hearing loss discourage you from getting out and living life to your fullest. Staying active and social is the key to a longer, happier, healthier life!
