FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS ANYONE BUT REGISTERED USERS WITH HEARING LOSS FROM USING INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) CAPTIONED TELEPHONES WITH THE CAPTIONS TURNED ON. IP Captioned Telephone Service may use a live operator. The operator generates captions of what the other party to the call says. These captions are then sent to your phone. There is a cost for each minute of captions generated, paid from a federally administered fund. No costs are passed along to individuals who qualify for the service.

Once we receive the signed Certification Form, a CaptionCall representative will contact your referred patient to schedule their delivery and installation of a complimentary CaptionCall phone and free captioning service.

  How Does CaptionCall Work?

Patient Eligibility

Anyone who has trouble using the telephone due to hearing loss is a possible candidate for CaptionCall. There is no predetermined decibel threshold to qualify. Your patient must simply have a hearing loss that, in your professional opinion, necessitates the use of captioned telephone service to communicate effectively by phone.


  • To use the CaptionCall phone, a qualified individual will need a standard phone line and an internet connection.
  • To use CaptionCall Mobile, they will need a CaptionCall account, an Apple iPad 2 or later, and a Wi-Fi or cellular internet connection.
