Regulations Involving Captioned Telephone Service
The captioned telephone industry is regulated by the Federal Government through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
CaptionCall users who received the phone prior to March 7, 2013 will need to provide a professional certification or pay $75 to use the captioned telephone.
Only a person registered to use a captioned telephone can use the phone with captions enabled.
All existing captioned telephone users must:
- Re-register with the captioned telephone provider. Registration Form
- Self-certify their need for the captioning service. Self-Certification Form
- Provide a professional certification of their need for captioned telephone service or pay the $75 minimum price. Professional Certification Form
Captioned telephone service providers must provide each user with a sticker for the phone stating "Federal Law prohibits anyone but registered users with hearing loss from using this device with the captions on."
